The November issue of the Perinews mentioned the recent Royal
British Legion visit to the Western Front
in France and Flanders to remember, as many as possible, of those Pirbrighters listed on the
War memorial and fell in the Great War of 1914-1918.

Out of the 48 names on the War memorial the group were able to
pay tribute to 21 Pirbrighters (10 at their
graves and 11 on Memorials to the missing) with 14 of those 21 being born in Pirbright.
Individuals in the group also had personal tributes to make and a further 7 servicemen
were remembered on Memorials or at their graves.

Remembrance crosses were left at all of the sites visited except
at the Menin Gate Memorial
which was closed for a major refurbishment but a poppy wreath was placed there during
the daily Last Post ceremony which is continuing just outside.
